Top 5 Most Instagramable Dessert Spots in NYC

Dessert lovers, this one is for you!

My love affair with dessert started as young girl when my dad took me to the local ice cream parlor in my hometown of Richmond, Kentucky. I was hooked after my very first bite of rocky road ice cream- arguably the best flavor out there. Fast forward to when I was 16 years old, I got my first job at Dairy Queen where I couldn’t get enough of those delicious DQ Blizzards. As you can tell, dessert has always been a big part of my life and no matter how hard I’ve tried, I’ve never been able to say no to it. It probably doesn’t help that I live in NYC where I’m surround by endless amounts of unique sweets, but I wouldn’t have it any other way! If you’re like me and love finding over-the-top (but still delicious) desserts…then keep on reading.

Here are my Top 5 Most Instagramable Dessert Spots in NYC that will make you and all your friends drool!

black tap

Black Tap NYC is American comfort food at it’s best. If you’re looking to win the burger jackpot, go here! With over 14 craft burgers to choose from, there’s a burger for every meat lover and vegetarian to choose from. I highly suggest their Pizza Burger. But enough about Burgers (for now), Black Tap’s claim to fame are their “Crazy Milkshakes” such as The Cotton Candy (pictured above), The Sweet & Salty, The Cookie Shake and The Cake Shake. All of these shakes are elaborately decorated to cater towards this “foodporn” phenomenon…and also to make your jaw drop. In fact, Black Tap was one of the first places (if not the very first) to start this crazy milkshake fad that has hit NYC!

Fun Fact: Black Tap actually started out as a tiny shop in the trendy SoHo area of NYC but have now expanded internationally. They just opened up a Black Tap in Singapore!

Insider tip: Black Tap is a very popular spot in NYC so make sure to get there early or be prepared to be waitlisted since they don’t take reservations. If you don’t feel like waiting, you can now order takeout!

stuffed ice cream

Another one of my favorite go-to ice cream shops in the Big Apple is Stuffed Ice Cream. They are famous for inventing the uber delicious “Cruff”- a toasted glazed donut stuffed with your choice of ice cream flavor & toppings. I’m drooling just thinking about it!

However, the most instagram worthy menu item (in my humble opinion) is their Ice Cream Bouquet. Yes, you heard me...an ICE CREAM BOUQUET! For those of you wondering what the heck is an ice cream bouquet, let me explain. It’s basically large scoops of ice cream stacked on top of each other to make an elegant bouquet shape. One word…genius! The best part, you can get as many scoops as you want! With Stuffed Ice Cream offering 18 unique flavors including White Chocolate Lavender, Sea Salt Caramel Pretzel, Vietnamese Coffee, and Red Velvet Cookie Dough Crumble- it’s almost impossible to choose so why get a scoop of each flavor? I was only brave enough to choose 7 scoops (pictured above) but the Chocolate Lavender is my personal favorite flavor.

tonchin.jpg

Tonchin is an upscale asian restaurant that’s located in midtown Manhattan specializing in ramen. If you enjoy noodles with fresh broth made from scratch, you’re in for a treat. However, we’re here to talk about the ‘sweet’ stuff! My favorite item on their menu is their GORGEOUS Milk Shaved Iced. It’s a giant bowl filled with shaved iced and a huge dollop of extra thick cream based sauce. They come in four different flavors including Ceremonial Grade Matcha, Tokyo Strawberry (pictured above), Parlor Coffee, and Delicious Mango. The Tokyo Strawberry is my personal favorite and it’s made with fresh strawberry, Tonchin honey cream sauce, and mint.

This is one of those epic desserts that honestly tastes even better than it looks! I’m seriously obsessed and I can’t wait to go back to Tonchin just for the shaved ice.

Insider tip: As you can tell, it is a pretty hefty portion so this can easily be shared between 2 or 3 people.

Originating in Osaka, Japan- it’s truely the cheesecake reinvented. Each cheesecake is so silky and light that it melts right in your mouth. It also comes in different flavors such as The Bouncy Cheesecake, Ube Bouncy, Cookies N Cream Fancy, Green Tea Fancy and Strawberry Fancy. With two Manhattan locations (Downtown and Midtown)- you can watch the bakers make these jiggly magic treats right in the window! The whole experience gave me the warm feeling that I could compare to the first time I walked into an ice cream parlor as a little girl.

MatchaNmore.jpg

This one is for all you Matcha lovers out there. Matcha N’ More is coffee shop specializing in everything Matcha, located right near Chinatown. Weather you fancy tea, lemonade, coffee or soft serve- they have it all. I know this may be shocking, but I don’t drink coffee so I opted to have their famous matcha soft serve.

As if matcha soft serve isn’t enough, you can add an edible 24kt gold leaf to make it sparkle! This bad boy costs a whopping $9 but it’s worth every penny and will most likely be number one liked photo on your Instagram! If you’re not into gold, then you can oder their soft serve float, an Affogato or even one of their many matcha flavored pastries.
